Grants and Funding

Looking for funding for your preservation project?

Whether you're looking for information on grants, loans, or rehabilitation tax credits, the National Trust for Historic Preservation may be able to help.  Please visit our Find Funding section to learn more about the programs and services we offer, download applications, and view examples of previously funded projects.

To find programs that might be specific to your state or region, contact your nearest statewide and local preservation organization.  For a list of Statewide and Local Partners click here.

Many State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPO) also have grant programs.  To find the contact information for the SHPO in your state, follow this link and select your state.

The Northeast Office generally awards grants three times a year: February, June, and October.  Here are a few recent projects we've helped.

Abbott
Lynn, MA: During the nineteenth and into the twentieth century, Lynn was known as the “shoe capital of the world.” The c. 1890 former Abbott Building/Prime Manufacturing Building was one of the city’s many shoe factories. Now, thanks to the Lynn Investing in Neighborhood Corp (LINC), instead of shoes, art will be created in this building. With some grant assistance from Northeast Office, LINC is planning to rehabilitate the top three floors of this large brick mill for affordable artist live/work spaces.

Before
The 238 windows of the c. 1850 Tremont Estates Building, owned by the Boston Center for the Arts, were restored with funding from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Lowes Charitable and Educational Foundation.

Alvah
Historic Boston, Inc. has been working to protect and find a use for the 1836 Alvah Kittredge House (Roxbury, MA). A feasibility analysis for the property was prepared with support from the Mildred Jones Keefe Preservation Fund for Massachusetts.
