About the Western Office
The Western Office is located in downtown San Francisco, California in the historic Hearst Building. Since 1971 the Western Office has been helping preserve the defining historic and cultural landmarks of our region. Working with state and local partners, community leaders, public officials, and grassroots advocacy groups, we provide technical assistance, small grants, and legal interventions to support the protection, stewardship, and continued use of heritage resources.

Grants
Preservation Funds, Intervention Funds, and other grants are available through the Western Office on a competitive basis. It is strongly recommended that you contact the Western Office about your project before submitting a grant application. Grants made in the Western Region in 2008 are included in the National Preservation Endowment FY2008 Annual Report.
Regional Grants
The Western Office administers National Trust Preservation Fund grants in the Western Region, offering nonprofit and government entities support with preservation planning, education, and outreach activities and intervention funding for preservation emergencies. Grants range from $500 to $5,000 and require a one-to-one match. In the Western Region, National Trust Preservation Funds are drawn from the following endowments:
- California Endowed Fund
- Eldridge Campbell Stockton Memorial Fund for Washington
- Hawai'i Preservation Fund
- Pacific Northwest Heritage Fund (AK, ID, OR, WA)

Los Angeles County Preservation Fund
The National Trust for Historic Preservation announces a grant program targeting historic preservation across Los Angeles County. Grants from the newly created Los Angeles County Preservation Fund will
provide seed monies (typical award $5,000 to $10,000) to nonprofit organizations and government agencies for preservation, stewardship, and community revitalization involving historic resources. Learn more »

National Grants
The Western Office serves applicants seeking funding from the National Trust's nationally competitive grant programs, including the Johanna Favrot Fund for Historic Preservation and the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fund for Historic Interiors.
Technical Assistance
Technical assistance in the areas of advocacy, educational outreach, cultural resource management, adaptive reuse, and preservation legal issues is available through the Western Office and our Washington, DC headquarters.
