This position is responsible for the review, guidance and support of the Construction Improvement Projects (CIP); demolition and alteration projects from the City and County; review of State and Federal projects, as assigned; conducting of surveys and inventories of buildings and structures within the State of Hawaii on an annual basis to maintain and update the State Historic Preservation Division's (SHPD) State inventory of historic properties (SIHP).
Citizenship Requirement: Applicants must be citizens, permanent resident aliens, or nationals of the United States. Non-citizens with unrestricted employment authorization from the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service may also apply.
Knowledge: Must be familiar with all applicable Federal and State preservation laws, regulations and standards; an understanding of the National Historic Preservation Act, Archaeological Resources Protection Act, and Chapter 6E, HRS; the Secretary of Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation; and MicroSoft Office, GIS, and ArcView.
Skills/Abilities: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal agencies, professional or lay groups, public officials, and the general public; negotiate adequate preservation protective measures; and read and interpret design and construction plans. Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree in Architectural History, Art History or Historic Preservation.
Specialized Experience Requirements: Two (2) years of experience in conducting 106 reviews for architectural projects. It is preferred at least one of the two (2) years of experience includes reviews of federal and military construction and demolition projects. Substitutions for Experience:
1. Master's degree in Architecture, Architectural History, or Historic Preservation may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
2. Doctorate degree in Architecture, Architectural History, or Historic Preservation may substitute for the two (2) years of Experience.
License Requirement: Applicants must possess a valid license, type 3 or higher, to drive in the State of Hawaii.
