The Board of Directors of Oatlands, Inc seeks a creative and energetic leader to be the organization’s next development director. Oatlands House and Historic Gardens is owned by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and operated by Oatlands, Inc. Oatlands deepens its value to the community by creating new communities of interest and support, turning a magical place into one of the top venues in the DC region.

The Development Director must reflect Oatlands itself: A rich history and capacity to innovate. The Director of Development is responsible for generating a large portion of the annual operating income for Oatlands, Inc. in partnership with the Board of Directors and Executive Director.


Development, Fundraising and Major Donor Cultivation

  • Identify, research and cultivate major donor prospects
  • Plan and manage fundraising events, including annual gala
  • Work closely with Board Committee to plan and execute 2 year capital campaign for expansion of Oatlands property
  • Research, write and administer grants
  • Execute annual appeal direct mail and Oatlands Annual Report

Corporate Sponsorships

  • Identify, research, and cultivate prospects for corporate sponsorships
  • Prepare proposals, present where appropriate or ask board or other advocate to present Membership
  • Manage membership program to grow, retain, and reactivate members
  • Use membership base to promote events and garner additional contributions

Marketing and PR

  • Responsible for property-wide marketing and public relations, including social and traditional media marketing, with pro bono assistance from outside firm


  • Plan and maintain annual development and marketing budgets


  • 5 years of fundraising experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrated experience with corporate development and capital campaigns
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and donor management systems
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
