Cowpens National Battlefield is offering an Internship opportunity with the United States National Park Service. Cowpens National Battlefield is a part of the National Park Service. This park was established to commemorate the Battle of Cowpens, a Patriot victory in the Southern Campaign of the American Revolutionary War. On the morning of January 17, 1781 Brigadier General Daniel Morgan and the Continental Army pulled off the only successful double envelopment in the Revolutionary War.
Assist with the daily operations of the visitor center and museum. Orient visitors to the site, answer questions of varying complexity, counting the number of visitors in the park buildings and at each program. Intern will be responsible for operating the Visitor Center. This will include manning the desk, stocking books and operating the cash register. The intern may present interpretive programs. These may be talks and demonstrations. Informal, roving interpretation will be required. Interns will assist in opening and closing procedures. Interns may be asked to use a government vehicle.
*Intern will also have the opportunity to complete a project in the area of their interest.
Housing: Free shared park housing is available for the duration of intern’s stay.
Travel: The park may be able to reimburse the volunteer for mileage.
Requirements: Intern must be currently enrolled in an accredited institution. Intern will preferably be able to receive some type of college credit for completing the internship. Interns must wear a uniform - khaki pants, tan shirt, brown belt, brown shoes and a cap (only outside). Must possess a valid driver’s license, clean and current.
Minimum Qualification Requirement: The candidate must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. In an effort to diversify the National Park Service we encourage minorities to apply.
