Research Connects Product with Visitors

Strategy: Know Your Customer/Product

Type of attraction: Tourism Organization

Summary: Knowing who is coming to your state or community and what they are interested in can help in developing products that will appeal to these visitors.

Knowing who is coming to your state or community and what they are interested in can help in developing products that will appeal to these visitors. Through research, the Georgia Office of Tourism learned that Baby Boomers – traditionally the state’s top travel segment – were traveling less since the economic recession began.

However, they also learned that GenX and GenY  - travelers in their 20s and 30s – were traveling more. With this information, the tourism office shifted parts of its marketing to target this growing market with messages about Georgia’s diversity of attractions, accessibility and Southern hospitality.
