Summary: To promote travel to Virginia and to help the state’s destinations and attractions in difficult economic times, the Virginia Tourism Corporation staff developed the Outreach and Training Help Desk.

 

To promote travel to Virginia and to help the state’s destinations and attractions in difficult economic times, the Virginia Tourism Corporation staff developed the Outreach and Training Help Desk.

Several times each year the VTC staff hits the road to visit a community that has requested a Help Desk. The event welcomes representatives from all areas of the tourism industry, including cultural and heritage attractions, to meet with VTC staff to discuss various marketing opportunities. For example, if a heritage attraction wants to increase its public relations efforts, they can talk with the VTC director of public relations to get advice and guidance on how to build an effective media plan. Other VTC staff talk with participants about topics ranging from available grants to advertising and electronic marketing.

Participants can even get help in posting information about their destination or attraction on Virginia’s official tourism website: www.virginia.org. In 2009, the VTC visited eight locations with more than 600 participants.
