To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to express my opposition to current plans for construction of a coal-fired power plant immediately adjacent to the National Historic Landmark Great Falls Portage Site in Montana.

The Great Falls Portage is the site of Lewis and Clark's arduous 18-mile, 31-day portage at Great Falls, and is arguably one of the best preserved and most accessible landscapes along the Lewis and Clark Trail.  Today, the corridor remains an undeveloped rural area and is one of the few documented campsites along the trail.

Construction of a 250-megawatt coal-fired power generation station (including a large 435-acre power generation building with a 400-foot smoke stack, four 262-foot wind turbines), will obliterate the cultural and visual landscape that reflects Lewis & Clark's journey, resulting in the loss of integrity, and possible de-listing of this National Historic Landmark.

Please reconsider this project due to the irreversible harm it will have on this nationally significant landscape.

Sincerely,
