Latino Heritage in Preservation
The National Trust for Historic Preservation proudly honors efforts nationwide to include Latinos in saving Hispanic heritage sites as well as historic preservation and community revitalization efforts within the Latino community. The historic places linked to these significant and dynamic American communities mirror the diversity of the people they represent, encompassing both multi-generational and recently arrived immigrant Latino populations, as well as rich cultural traditions from virtually every corner of Latin America. A degree of cultural competence and sensitivities pertinent to each unique Hispanic community--beyond simply providing bilingual translations—must be taken into account when engaging the U.S. Latino community in historic preservation.
