Rural Heritage Pilot Projects

  • A grant from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation is supporting the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Rural Heritage Development Initiative (RHDI), a four-year demonstration project involving pilot projects in two rural regions: the Arkansas Delta and the Central Kentucky Heartland. Working with local and state partners, the National Trust for Historic Preservation is seeking to demonstrate the value of heritage-based rural development strategies through these four-year demonstration projects.
  • Grants from the Harvest Foundation and the Public Welfare Foundation are supporting a National Trust rural heritage development effort in Martinsville and surrounding Henry County, Virginia.  This work is being led by the National Trust for Historic Preservation's Southern Field Office.
  • The National Trust for Historic Preservation is partnering with the Piedmont Environmental Council and other organizations on the Journey Through Hallowed Ground project, which is seeking to implement preservation strategies for the fast-growing Route 15 corridor through the historic landscape of northern Virginia, Maryland, and Pennsylvania, terminating at Gettysburg.
