iChicago: Taking Main Street 2.0 to the Windy City
by Andrea L. Dono
This month we feature several exciting programs in and around Chicago to showcase successes of our 2009 National Main Streets Conference host city and statewide partner. Read about Downtown Elgin’s progressive use of web tools to enhance its outreach, Andersonville’s wildly successful shop local first campaign, St. Charles’ large-scale infill project, the Chicago Loop’s popular podcast audio tours, Rogers Park’s path to becoming an arts and entertainment district. Each story shares what worked for each community and transferrable lessons learned for any Main Street community to glean.
Oregon Main Street announces its first 11 Main Street communities; Awareness, Inc., releases a report on using social media for marketing efforts; eXtension offers free entrepreneur webinars; and support your local businesses through the Center’s ShopMainStreet.org website.
