The Capitol Hill Fourth of July Parade proudly marched down Barracks Row Main Street, albeit slowly and with a late start. But what better way to start a parade than with our own Marine Honor Guard Marching Band, something everyone on the Hill is proud as punch of no matter what our political leanings. Then a variety of "floats" (trailers with kids throwing candy on them), a few churches, a group of people pushing garbage cans on wheels, several elementary schools, and finally the Eastern High School Marching band which was just as good as the much older and more seasoned Marines. Despite the bruise on my forehead where I was hit with a too-enthusiastically tossed Tootsie Roll, I love living on Capitol Hill.

The Fourth of July celebration has already happened in Lewisburg, PA. For as long as anyone can remember, the community has celebrated the Fourth with fireworks and a big band in the park on Friday night and a huge parade on the Saturday closest to the Fourth. Several years ago, the volunteer committee organizing the celebration made a decision to celebrate early so that they could attract entertainment easier and give the people in this small, rural area an opportunity to experience things they might not see otherwise. The parade includes professional string bands, the Mummers, a fly-over by vintage B-28's and lots of opportunities for honoring veterans
