Regulations requiring multi-story superstores - The city of MIssion, Kansas passed regulations on 8/18/04 that required big-box stores over 100,000 square feet to be three stories tall and would regulate parking and landscaping and subject superstores to additional oversight by the city including the stipulations that: stores larger than 50,000 square feet would have to be two stories; 75 percent of parking would have to be in a garage or on the street; parking must be to the rear or side of the building and would have to be screened by either a masonry wall or landscaping; city would regulate superstore’s traffic, landscaping, amount and type of signage, and hours of operation; At least 20 percent of a big-box store site would have to be landscaped for a pocket park or plaza.
