Expanding the Power of Main Street: Engaging Multicultural Entrepreneurs

Many multicultural entrepreneurs prefer to establish their businesses in traditional downtown and neighborhood commercial districts, which creates an opportunity for Main Street organizations to welcome and foster their participation. Yet, beyond translating fliers to increase attendance at local events, most Main Street programs fail to connect with these stakeholders and guide them to available resources and active leadership roles. In this session, Hispanic leaders will discuss how they became involved in Main Street community efforts and will share outreach initiatives developed by their programs. With time for questions and answers, they will offer their perspectives on how your organizations can serve as important catalysts to effectively integrate multicultural entrepreneurs as active leaders in your communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • With direct participation of active Hispanic leaders, this session will help participants understand the process of involving Hispanics in revitalization and community efforts.
  • The session will also address key strategies to reach and benefit from the cultural strengths of diverse leadership participation.
