Booking Basics: Music for Your Event

Learning Approach: Best Practices

| Sheraton New Orleans, Bayside | Posted: Sunday, 2:45-3:30 p.m.

In the 30 years we’ve been on tour and booking tours for our artists, we have seen a marked increase in the number of Main Street, economic development, and merchant associations using music as a tool to enhance the downtown and built community. Understandably, many of these organizations lack experience booking music talent, especially national artists, for their events. This workshop will help you identify desired talent and contact them or their agents, select a committee, use correct industry language, and negotiate performance fees and contracts. It will also cover cancellation clauses, standard agency commissions, the various levels of experience of artists/agents, and the financials and overarching dynamics of booking both national and local/regional artists.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand how to successfully book music events for your downtown.
  2. Learn how to negotiate an artist performance fee.
  3. Discover how to review a contract for national touring artists and local artists.
