Ever wonder how a district gets listed in the National Register of Historic Places? What it means to be listed and what benefits the listing provides? What is the difference between a national and locally designated district? National Park Service representatives will explain the process of identifying districts, choosing appropriate boundaries, and getting the district listed in the National Register so your community can access the many benefits available!

Jim Gabbert has been a historian with the National Register of Historic Places program at the National Park Service, Washington DC since 2007. Following a three year stint at the non-profit Indiana Landmarks, he served as the National Register coordinator and structures reviewer for the Oklahoma State Historic Preservation Office from 1999 2007. He holds an MS in Historic Preservation from Eastern Michigan University and a BA in History and Geography from Indiana University.
