The primary responsibility of a Main Street economic restructuring committee is to reverse the cycle of disinvestment by increasing investment in infrastructure, property, and businesses. Improving the commercial dynamics of your Main Street requires activities such as retail market analysis, business and real estate development, financial incentive programs, and planning. We’ll provide analysis of current economic trends and share successful economic restructuring case studies.

Jim Thompson currently serves as the business specialist with Main Street Iowa, covering all areas of Economic Restructuring. He has served in all aspects at the local level including program director, board member, and volunteer. He oversees all aspects of market analysis, including data analysis, business retention, recruitment, and implementation strategies. He has also led efforts in branding and one-on-one business technical assistance for Iowa’s Main Street communities. Jim has been a part of the Main Street Iowa team for more than six years. He has over 25 years experience in community development and retail management, and served on the city council for 10 years. Jim has also served as a consultant for the National Main Street Center and has presented multiple times at the National Main Streets Conference. He is a Certified Main Street Manager.
