Thank you to everyone for a great 2016 Main Street Now Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin! This year’s conference showcased and celebrated the innovative techniques and practices that make the Main Street Approach® one of the most powerful economic development tools in the nation. Celebrating the 2016 Great American Main Street Award Winners
Audubon Park, Orlando, Fla., Dahlonega, Ga., and Shaw District, Washington, D.C. were selected as the 2016 Great American Main Street Award® (GAMSA) winners! The 2016 GAMSA winners have succeeded in making their towns an exciting place to live, work, play and visit through implementing the National Main Street Center’s comprehensive methodology for downtown revitalization. In each locality, the local Main Street organization has collaborated with residents, business owners and other local partners to revitalize their district by promoting the assets that makes that community special. Innovation on Main Street Awards
Laramie Main Street Alliance, Main Street Alabama and REV Birmingham are winners of the second annual “Innovation on Main Street” awards. This award recognizes Main Street organizations for successful, sustainable initiatives that represent new approaches to existing downtown revitalization challenges or opportunities. “We are particularly proud of the Innovation on Main Street awardees as they provide clear evidence that the entrepreneurial spirit is alive and well in historic commercial districts,” says Patrice Frey, president and CEO of the National Main Street Center. “We commend these programs for going outside of the tried and true to find new revitalization solutions that can benefit the entire Main Street movement.” Learn more about each of the winners.

Main Street Now is the largest nationwide gathering of commercial district revitalization professionals in the nation. Held in the spring, this annual event draws community leaders from small towns, mid-sized cities and urban neighborhood business districts. The conference brings together over 1,500 dedicated professionals, boards, municipal staff, and other key decision makers together to share their successes and challenges and foster new ideas and solutions for preservation-based revitalization.
