Hosting the National Main Streets Conference

The National Main Streets Conference, produced by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is the premiere conference for the preservation-based revitalization of traditional commercial districts. It is coordinated by the National Trust Main Street Center® and a local co-host organization. With approximately 1,600 attendees, it attracts both professionals and volunteers dedicated to the preservation-based revitalization of traditional downtowns and commercial districts, particularly those using the Main Street Four Point Approach®. Held in a different location every spring, the conference focuses all of its educational tours and a portion of its educational classroom sessions on local and regional issues and case studies, bringing them to a national audience. For these purposes, the Center seeks a location that has a coordinating Main Street program and preservation and revitalization successes to share with conference registrants.

Past conference host communities have gained needed or continued support from state and/or local governments and funders by sharing their successes with a national audience of their peers through coverage by national media, including CNN, Good Morning America, and Parade Magazine, which have covered past conferences, and through the Great American Main Street Awards®, which are presented at the conference.
