Provide leadership to the Southwest Office and throughout the Southwest preservation community to achieve preservation outcomes and build statewide and local capacity.  In carrying out all responsibilities include ways to engage people in the work of the National Trust, make the National Trust visible, and attract financial and other resources. Strengthen the capacity and impact of the Southwest Office through maximizing staff effectiveness, developing new and enhancing existing program delivery models, and leveraging National Trust resources.  Raise necessary financial resources to complement core funding from the overall National Trust budget and assist national fundraising efforts.  Inform, advise, and be a leader for the National Trust with regard to emerging threats, opportunities and potential responses in the Southwest, and in shaping and carrying out goals and programs. Represent the National Trust for Historic Preservation as a principal spokesperson in the Southwest.  


Duties

  • In concert with National Trust goals, prepare and carry out the Southwestern Office annual work program and related budget, together with fundraising plan. 
  • Oversee the general operation of the Southwestern Office, including program management, recruitment and direction of staff and supervision of policy, financial and other management matters.
  • Develop and continually assist and strengthen an effective, accessible system for providing preservation assistance in the Southwest through interventions to save historic places and build the National Trust's leadership position, with attention to new coalitions and collaborations with partners.
  • Strengthen working partnerships to clarify and coordinate Southwest Office roles with the Southwest preservation community, especially statewide and local organizations, to build capacity and enable preservationists to produce preservation outcomes in saving places or leading in public policies.
  • Illuminate through effective communications the role and contributions of the National Trust with its partners in saving historic places and revitalizing communities.
  • Share best practices and outcomes from the work of the Southwest Office across the National Trust and especially through PreservationNation.
  • Perform all duties with the aim of helping achieve Next Trust strategic goals, including: engaging the public, reaching more diverse communities and constituents, building partnerships in the non-profit and governmental arenas, and increasing the Southwest Office's financial independence.  

Qualifications

  • A degree in preservation or related field, with graduate degree preferred.  Five years work experience as a preservation organization leader or comparable experience, including program management, fundraising, staff and volunteer management, financial management, and public relations.
  • Extensive professional and volunteer experiences supportive of and relevant to the mission of the National Trust.
  • Demonstrated leadership of talented professionals and multi-skill teams to achieve planned outcomes in both results and capacity building.
  • Experience in achieving outcomes through working in and building partnerships, coalitions and collaborations.
  • Successful participation, preferably with a leadership role, in significant fundraising efforts for a nonprofit organization.
  • Demonstrated management experience in the operations of a program-focused unit, preferably within a larger organization. 
  • Experience engaging culturally diverse audiences a plus; ability to speak and understand Spanish desirable.
