The Online Content Provider is responsible for providing online programmatic content to PreservationNation.org with a concentration in the areas of Law and Public Policy. PreservationNation.org is more than just the National Trust for Historic Preservation's website. It's part of an organization-wide branding, outreach, engagement and communications project – a virtual town square where people can share proven tools, make connections, and get inspired to save historic places. Working with the Web, Legal, and Public Policy staffs, the Online Content Provider develops, edits, and re-purposes content and content products for the web on key legal issues (e.g., takings, regulation of historic religious properties), legal case studies on current and past Legal Defense Fund matters, development of a "brief bank" available to partner organizations, information on easements, and legal education tools. On the Public Policy side, this individual will have significant responsibility for the build out of the web-based Advocacy Center, and key public policy issues such as sustainability, public lands, and state & local policy. This position is also responsible for building interactive advocacy and public policy tools and products. In addition, 20% of the work of the Online Programmatic Content Provider will be focused on special initiatives and projects directed by the Director of Online Communications.
Duties
- Develop new web content; repurpose existing content for the web; and assist programmatic staff in Law and Public Policy in the development of web content.
- Participate in or run internal content teams.
- Develop or project manage web products (such as the brief bank).
- Participate in social media outreach, including writing for the PreservationNation blog.
- Maintain relationships with statewide and local preservation organizations partnering on advocacy issues and work as needed with Convio software representatives.
- Create an expanded, robust, accurate, and current web content in the two key areas of focus, with a goal of increased advocacy engagement.
Qualifications
- B.A.. or B.S. preferred.
- Minimum 5 years experience in marketing, communications and/or publishing; experience marketing to and engaging culturally diverse audiences a plus.
- Experience in creating and managing detailed projects, including drafting project plans, schedules, and reports.
- Experience producing online content, content products, and user experiences.
- Demonstrated skill in writing, editing, and proofreading required.
- Demonstrated facility with HTML and content management concepts.
- Familiarity with public policy and legal issues preferred; familiarity with historic preservation and preservation-related advocacy issues a strong plus..
- Familiarity with online advocacy tools, and with social networking media, such as Facebook, MySpace, Flickr, etc. preferred
- Familiarity with software such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, FTP, Access, website analytics, etc. preferred.
- Motivation, confidence and self-starting qualities. Ability to work productively and independently.
- Must be collegial with other staff.
- Must be highly organized, and able to work on a number of projects at once.
- Must be entrepreneurial and highly creative.
