Provide leadership through coordination of all Glass House (GH) media relationships. Be the contact and point of coordination for all in-bound media requests. In this capacity serve to organize visits, tours, materials, interviews, expanded topic ideas and follow-up. Work with the Directors to develop an overall pro-active outbound PR strategy based on key goals and topics. In this capacity serve to develop press releases, targeted media partners, work through needs until print date. Serve as the point person for any shoots on-site (camera, film etc) and organization of any press-days. Manage the press archive and overall GH materials.
This position is available to be filled as of 10/1/08.
Duties
- Point person for all media inquiries (on and off hours). Organizes visits, tours, detailed information and follow-up.
- Work with Executive Director (ED) and Directors to review annual goals and programs to develop an overall PR strategy for out-bound pitches. Create strategic calendar and identify key media targets. Write press releases and develop media packets on key topics.
- Responsible for setting & managing weekly or bi-monthly media meeting with Directors to review calendar, press visits, key pitches and content
- Coordinate major Modernism + Recent Past (M+RP) topics with National Trust Communications Office to maximize national exposure. In the case of an M+RP media and launch strategy, serves as the GH/Center for Modernism point person in this workgroup.
- Develop and maintain database of media contacts, articles and update as necessary. Capture and share key media coverage with Director of Development for sponsorship pitches and New Media Manager for web-site updating.
- Oversee event photography and inclusion in press, web and donor communications
- Monitor news and track stories to the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
- Coordination of PR firm (if applicable in future).
- Perform other PR and Communications duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in marketing communications and public relations, including at least some experience in writing for and pitching news stories, planning, development and execution of marketing communications programs, campaigns, activities and events.
- Excellent organizational, presentation, promotional and analytical skills. Strong writing skills are a must.
- Must be high-energy and task-driven with ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and identify creative approaches to the marketing of the organization and its products and services.
- Strong interpersonal skills mandatory.
- Interest in history and preservation are desirable.
