The Visitor Services Associate serves as the primary week-end front gate representative and is the initial point-of-contact for visitors. As such, the position requires the ability to relate to all types of visitors in a positive manner, and in accordance with Drayton Hall/ National Trust policies and procedures. Additionally, the Visitor Service Associate is trained and will be scheduled to lead public programs and assist in the Museum Shop.
Duties
- Exemplify dedication to excellent visitor service by providing accurate information on the visitor experience including: history of the site, program content, tour availability, visitor amenities, and answers to frequently asked questions.
- Greet all guests in a friendly, helpful, and courteous manner. Respond with good judgment to a wide variety of situations and people.
- Participate in training for public programs in order to give tours and lead education programs.
- Participate in training for Museum Shop procedures in order to cover retail responsibilities as needed.
- While at the gate: lock and unlock gate in a timely manner; announce visitors and groups to interpretive staff; keep gatehouse supplies and surroundings neat and stocked; work with staff to find a qualified replacement during planned absences; operate computer ticketing system and become knowledgeable in all programs and special promotions offered; balance cash box and provide closing reports daily.
- Anticipate the need for additional tours and advise interpretive staff as necessary.
- Assist with site preparations for special events or SPUs, as needed or assigned.
- Provide assistance in case of emergency on the property or on Ashley River Road by phoning appropriate authorities; screen out trespassers.
- Become knowledgeable in site security procedures.
- Take initiative to seek improvements to procedures with the goal of improving the level of visitor service.
Qualifications
- Seeking individuals who are dependable, trustworthy, problem-solvers
- Bachelor's Degree required
- 3 years experience in a professional capacity working with public audiences, preferably in a sales or customer service position
- Proven oral, written, administrative, and organizational skills
- Must be able to articulate the site's mission to a wide range of audiences
- Computer experience required. Some lifting/manual labor tasks may be required when working in the Museum Shop.
