The Communications Intern will be an integral member of the Communications team at the National Trust for Historic Preservation. He/she will assist with high-profile programs, media relations, daily operations, and the monitoring, development and maintenance of online content in a fast-paced communications department. 

This is an unpaid internship, but with a flexible part time schedule and offering terrific experience in PR and media relations.

 


Duties

  • Manage a project independently, to be based on personal interests.
  • Assist with the development, repurposing and editing of content for the website;
  • Create online content for high-profile National Trust programs: Dozen Distinctive Destination, 11 Most Endangered Historic Places;
  • Assist with management of Press Center;
  • Build strategic media lists;
  • Manage and edit digital assets;
  • Administrative tasks as assigned. 

Qualifications

Education

  • Current or recent undergraduate or graduate student; focus in communications, historic preservation, history or journalism desirable.

Desired Experience

  • Experience working in communications, marketing, or administration;
  • Experience producing online content and user experiences;
  • Experience creating and managing detailed projects, including drafting project plans, schedules, and reports.

Special Skills

  • Excellent writing, editing, and research skills required;
  • Extensive experience with computers, digital media and the Internet required;
  • Strong word, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software skills preferred;
  • Familiarity with content management systems, Photoshop and FTP preferred.
