MacGillivray’s Building, LLC of Baltimore will use a $225,000 loan from the Inner-City Ventures Fund (ICVF) to help finance the rehabilitation of the MacGillivray’s Building located in the Mount Vernon Historic District. The 10,000 square foot property consists of a four-story brick townhouse with a mansard roof built c.1860; and a rear addition built c.1900 as apartments. The property was rescued from demolition by eighteen community residents and merchants who have partnered with Midtown Development Corporation, Inc. to convert the severely dilapidated corner property into six upper-floor apartments and a 2,000 square-foot wine store on the lower level. Most recently, the retail space had served as a liquor and check-cashing store while the upper story apartments have been vacant for over twenty years. The source for the ICVF loan is Bank of America. Other project funding includes State and Federal Rehabilitation Tax Credits and an HGTV Restore America grant.
