Partners in the Field Round Two

Twenty-one grants, totaling over $2 million, were awarded on February 17, 2009, creating a total of forty-five Partners in the Field grants to forty-seven Statewide & Local Partners. See below for a list of round two grant recipients.

Round two grant awards went to:

  • Alabama Trust for Historic Preservation, $82,000, to expand “Historic Preservation: The Original Green” initiative, demonstrating that historic preservation is a responsible and sustainable alternative;
  • Baltimore Heritage, Inc. (MD), $80,000, to provide on-the-ground assistance to traditionally African American neighborhoods faced with the opportunities and challenges of new transit development;
  • California Preservation Foundation, $150,000, to make historic preservation an integral part of community planning and economical development especially in underserved communities;
  • Cincinnati Preservation Association (OH), $72,500, to proactively engage all communities in the Greater Cincinnati area by providing technical assistance, hands-on support, and advocacy for preservation issues;
  • Columbus Landmarks Foundation (OH), $75,000, to help preserve the rich stock of residences, churches, schools, commercial and government buildings in Columbus by instituting a hands-on preservation field services program;
  • Foundation for Historical Louisiana (LA), $83,000, to build and sustain new partnerships in the nine parish Capital region and provide technical assistance to preservation projects;
  • Heritage Nebraska, $125,000, to deploy two preservation field representatives to add preservation efforts in an expansive and diverse state;
  • Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation, $103,000, to expand field services in Louisiana's central and northern parishes focusing on the challenges and opportunities for properties nominated to the  LTHP’s Ten Most Endangered Sites List;
  • Madison Trust for Historic Preservation (WI), $87,500, to hire the first full-time staff to preserve Madison's historic resources through education, advocacy and hands-on assistance;
  • Maine Preservation /Greater Portland Landmarks, $150,000, to establish a collaborative historic preservation field service program to offer on-site technical assistance to preservers of historic properties throughout Maine;
  • New Hampshire Preservation Alliance, $60,000, to expand shared field services to the most remote and economically-challenged region of New Hampshire and  address unmet needs and community development objectives;
  • Preservation Alliance of West Virginia, $75,000, To provide direct technical assistance to endangered properties, enhance capacity and tools for rural areas, and improve preservation education;
  • Preservation Buffalo Niagara (NY), $117,500, to provide Partnered Field Services for Buffalo, Niagara Falls and throughout seven underserved western New York counties while reinforcing a new full service preservation organization;
  • Preservation Delaware, $75,000, to expand on-the-ground field services statewide especially by providing hands-on assistance in southern Delaware.;
  • Preservation Durham (NC), $88,000, Develop and manage a plan to identify, designate and preserve historically African American sites and neighborhoods;
  • Preservation Kentucky, $100,000, to provide full time staff for rural field services focusing primarily on barn preservation and revitalization of our smallest towns while training volunteers;
  • Preservation New Jersey, $84,000, to provide a field representative who will travel the state and communicate directly with local preservationists seeking technical and networking assistance and mentoring; 
  • Preservation Texas, $90,100, to expand field services and increase public awareness of historic preservation through the Texas’ Most Endangered Places program;
  • San Antonio Conservation Society (TX), $105,000, to expand field services into rural areas in nearby counties, as well as into underserved neighborhoods in San Antonio;
  • San Francisco Architectural Heritage (CA), $120,000, to enhance SFHA's citywide engagement by adding a Neighborhood Preservation Specialist, focusing on traditionally under-represented neighborhoods; and
  • Utah Heritage Foundation, $115,000, to hire a full-time field service representative to focus on historic preservation in central and southern Utah.
