Scholarship Assistance

The National Trust for Historic Preservation offers a number of scholarships to assist in educational opportunities participation.

National Preservation Conference

Diversity Scholarship Program

Since 1992, the Diversity Scholarship Program (DSP) has provided financial assistance to more than 1,100 individuals from diverse racial, ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds. The goal of the Diversity Scholarship Program is to increase the diversity of participants at the annual National Preservation Conference and in the preservation movement. The Program provides financial assistance to approximately 50 community leaders from diverse social, economic, racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds to attend the National Preservation Conference. Through interactive sessions, presentations, informal gatherings, and tours of the host city and surrounding areas, participants will learn the necessary tools to strengthen their commitment and effectiveness in preserving historic places and revitalizing communities.

The National Trust seeks culturally diverse applicants whose attendance at the Conference will benefit their communities and whose commitment to historic preservation will be reinforced by their participation. Recipients will have an opportunity to express their perspectives during the Conference and to take advantage of National Trust programs after the Conference.

Cultural Diversity Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships are available to ensure the cultural diversity of Preservation Leadership Training participants and will be applied to housing and/or meal fees. Applicants must demonstrate why the assistance is needed, why the National Trust is the only source of assistance available to them, and how their participation will enhance the diversity of the preservation movement.

PLT Alumni Scholarship Fund

Preservation Leadership Training participants who are not eligible for cultural diversity scholarships may qualify for support from the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Scholarships will be applied to housing and/or meal fees. Applicants must demonstrate why the assistance is needed, why the National Trust is the only source of assistance available to them, and how their participation will contribute to historic preservation efforts in their community.

Tuition Scholarships

Mildred Colodny Scholarship for Graduate Study in Historic Preservation

The Mildred Colodny Scholarship program provides financial assistance (a tuition award and a paid internship) and experiential learning opportunities to individuals preparing for careers in historic preservation.  The purpose of the Colodny Scholarship is to increase the diversity of people pursuing degrees and careers in historic preservation in the United States. The National Trust is seeking culturally diverse applicants whose commitment to historic preservation will be strengthened by obtaining a graduate degree in preservation, who will benefit from the internship and mentorship opportunities provided by the Trust, and who ultimately will contribute valuable, diverse perspectives to -- and become leaders in -- the field of preservation.
