Are there tax benefits at the state level as well?
Updated February 21, 2008In addition to the federal tax benefit, some states provide similar deductions against state income taxes for the donation of conservation and preservation easements – and some local jurisdictions recognize the effects of an easement in calculating real property taxes. In addition, a few states actually provide tax credits for conservation easements. Check with your State Historic Preservation Office or statewide preservation organization for more information on tax incentives for easements in your state.
