A FACEBOOK WIN-WIN

Thanks to Celebrities for a Cause you can buy and sell items while supporting the National Trust for Historic Preservation at Facebook Marketplace.  Actress Jennifer Coolidge is among the “Celebrities for a Cause,” offering a custom-made dress she wore when starring as Paulette in “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde.”  This promotion will raise awareness about the importance of preservation with Facebook’s 175 million members and proceeds from the sale of this one-of-a-kind dress will benefit our “Rebuilding New Orleans” project.  You can get involved by selling or purchasing an item, or by friending us on our Facebook fan page.

WOMEN IN PRESERVATION

March is Women’s History Month and to celebrate we’re featuring women who matter in preservation.  Visit our Women’s Heritage section of PreservationNation and read about historic places honoring women in history and how women are working today to protect the places we all care about.  Take our online quiz and share your own stories about women who you think have made an impact on saving America’s heritage.

MAKING THE PRESERVATION CASE

Grassroots lobbying is a tradition in America….and federal preservation efforts have been underway for more than 30 years.  As part of our work to raise awareness that historic preservation is, in addition to saving places, an important driver of economic development, we partnered with Preservation Action and the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers to conduct Lobby Day 2009

This year, hundreds of preservationists descended on the Capitol to talk to their lawmakers about the benefits of preservation.  Included in the delegation were 13 hardy souls from the OTHER Washington -- Washington state.  We invite you to learn more about their efforts -- why they came, what they hoped to accomplish and what they learned from the experience.  As a 501(c) 3 organization, we are permitted to participate in lobbying activities provided we stay within federal guidelines for non profits.  Learn more about our efforts and stay tuned about how you can get involved in upcoming district lobby days in your area.
