Main Street™ Consulting and Training Services
The National Trust Main Street Center's consulting and training services help communities meet the challenges and opportunities facing their downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts. Our goal is to provide communities with the tools and information for successful, sustainable revitalization. We work with each client to design services that meet local needs and resources.
Our skills and expertise help communities develop and strengthen community-based commercial district revitalization efforts and implement highly effective, successful revitalization projects.
The Main Street Consulting Services staff offers a comprehensive range of services to traditional downtowns and neighborhood business districts in cities, small towns, high-growth communities, and inner-ring suburbs. We provide consulting, technical assistance, and training to new and existing Main Street programs, business improvement districts, community development corporations, downtown development authorities, chambers of commerce, and municipal governments.
The National Trust Main Street Center works with all types of communities in all stages of revitalization. By working with the Main Street Center, your community gets the benefit of decades of expertise, in-the-trenches knowledge, and proven revitalization expertise – straight from the original Main Street source!

Heritage Tourism
The National Trust's Heritage Tourism program helps communities develop successful and sustainable programs that will enhance cultural and heritage attractions for residents and visitors alike. Consulting services are available on a fee-for-service basis in strategic planning, preservation, tourism development, interpretation, and marketing. The Heritage Tourism program offers a series of "how-to" materials to help individuals and organizations develop cultural and heritage tourism programs and is a national advocate for cultural heritage tourism issues. The Heritage Tourism program is an active participant in Partners in Tourism, a coalition of cultural and heritage tourism practitioners.

Center for Preservation Leadership
The National Trust for Historic Preservation's Center for Preservation Leadership strengthens and supports a network of committed and informed preservation leaders by providing the tools and resources needed to carry out preservation activities in their own states and communities. The center accomplishes this mission by providing educational opportunities and information resources for preservation leaders and their organizations.

Project Consulting
Strategic Consulting Services can help to guide planning for development, organize priorities, provide guidance on predevelopment and financing plans and assist in determining if and how a project should be undertaken.
Capacity Building
Strategic Consulting Services provides training, workshops and hands-on technical assistance in real estate finance and the historic preservation development process. Typical services many include:
- Providing help to citywide and statewide preservation organizations that partner with CDCs.
- Developing a manual and/or training course for preservation organizations interested in community development.
- Enhancing the ability of state and local preservation organizations to engage directly or facilitate financing for real estate development projects.
Comprehensive Neighborhood Initiatives
Strategic Consulting Services looks for opportunities to use anchor preservation projects to stimulate broader preservation-based community revitalization initiatives.
