Services include (1) training in real estate finance, (2) consulting services on the rehab and re-use of older or obsolete properties and landmarks, and (3) technical assistance to build local capacity for preservation-based real estate development.
Project Consulting
Strategic Consulting Services can help guide planning for development, organize priorities, provide guidance on predevelopment and financing plans, and assist in determining if and how a project should be undertaken. Strategic Consulting Services can also assist property owners and developers with readiness for tax credit syndication, financing, and valuation analysis.
Capacity Building
Strategic Consulting Services provides training, workshops and hands-on technical assistance in real estate finance and the historic real estate development process. Typical services may include:
- Providing assistance--resource, financing and/or personnel development--to citywide and statewide preservation organizations that partner with CDCs.
- Developing a manual and/or training course for preservation organizations interested in real estate development.
- Enhancing the ability of state and local preservation organizations to obtain or facilitate financing for real estate development projects.
Comprehensive Neighborhood Initiatives
Strategic Consulting Services looks for opportunities to support anchor preservation projects that stimulate broader preservation-based community revitalization initiatives. Consultants bring the combined commercial district expertise of the National Trust Main Street Center and the real estate redevelopment experience of the National Trust Loan Fund.
Our criteria include:
- Brick and mortar preservation projects that can be used as a catalyst for community
- revitalization (housing preservation and rehabilitation; as well as commercial district revitalization);
- Commitment of neighborhood-based organizations with community development experience;
- Demonstration projects that integrate historic preservation with community planning and development.

Strategic Consulting Services is available on a fee-for-service basis. Technical Assistance grants may be available for a portion of the costs. Preservation Development Initiative
Strategic Consulting Services has a five-year track-record of results through its Preservation Development Initiative. Funded by the Knight Foundation, PDI has worked closely with the public and private sectors in eight cities, selected through a competitive RFP process, to integrate historic preservation into their economic and community development plans.

To All Concerned & Commissioned Serve: On February 20, 2009 I learned that a home purchased on or about September 1, 1887 in Russellville, KY by my great great grand mother Mrs. Lizzie Gotier is a log cabin. The home was built on land once owned by the first Democrat and eleventh Governor of Kentucky, the Honorable John Breathitt and he brother. Have contacted Mr. Mark Dennen, Executive Director of the Kentucky Heritage Council and I registered the home with the Council on March 25, 2009. Mr. Bill Macintire and other staff have provided me with a volume of listings of companies to restore the cabins but I have know idea which way to go. I am need of technical assistance, workshops/conferences training and grant information so that I develop a plan to preserve and rehabilitate the cabins. Please assist me.
