Pride of Place

Saving Diverse Historic Places in Partnership with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation

This house has changed our lives for the better, we now give tours to seniors and young adults. We get letters from people all the time telling us their memories of the house and how thrilled they are that we saved it. People in the community are so happy that we are here. For us it really gives new meaning to the term "pride of place."

Francis Crespo and Lance Dronkers display their historic home saved through the Gifts of Heritage Program

Sydenham House was saved because of the Gifts of Heritage (GOH) Program, which makes it possible for owners of historic homes to donate their properties to the National Trust to protect them for future generations.

In 2006, Francis Crespo and Lance Dronkers purchased Sydenham House, one of the oldest surviving structures in Newark, New Jersey.  Dedicated preservationists, they appreciated the protections placed on the property through the GOH program and have since worked steadily to restore it as a show place for their collection of American folk art.

Now, thanks to a new partnership with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, those wishing to donate their own historic homes can make a gift that benefits both organizations and ensures a future for their house.  Learn more about how your one great house can support two great causes.
