HB 780 to be Considered by Senate Committee

Help Ensure Fiscal Responsibility and Common Sense in Planning for New Orleans Healthcare

Background Information

Preservationists had a reason to celebrate on June 3rd when the Louisiana House overwhelmingly passed House Bill 780 by a vote of 94 to 2. This bill would require LSU to have the financing plan for its proposed new hospital approved by the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget before it could purchase or seize property on the proposed Lower Mid-City site. Outreach by advocates was a key component in garnering this amount of support.

The measure now moves to the Senate for consideration, where it may be more difficult to secure support.

The Senate Education Committee may consider the bill as early as June 8th.  We need your outreach to ensure common sense planning for New Orleans Healthcare.

This means making sure that LSU has a sound financing plan for its proposed $1.2 billion hospital before being allowed to buy or seize land in the New Orleans Mid-City neighborhood.
