Help Protect Preservation Funding in Pennsylvania
Background Information
In his FY 2009-2010 budget, Governor Edward G. Rendell has deleted museum assistance funding and effectively eliminated the Pennsylvania History and Museum Grant Program, which is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. This decision to cut funding will eliminate:
- Project grants for historic preservation, local history, archives and records management, and museum projects.
- General operating support grants for statewide organizations, museums and historical societies.
- A significant portion of funding to the state heritage areas, resulting in a loss in operating funds for each heritage area and the elimination of the funds frequently used as grants to smaller organizations in each of the twelve heritage areas.
- Technical assistance grants funded through Preservation Pennsylvania.
Take Action
Use our online e-mail form to contact your state legislators and inform them of the consequences of eliminating funding to historical societies, museums and preservation grant programs. Funding cuts will negatively impact heritage tourism within Pennsylvania, as well as result in the loss of jobs and the minimal staffing required to keep the doors open at numerous museum and heritage sites.

Phila has renewed the Avenue of the Arts, to many other great venues. There is no need to stop now. Tourism create jobs and bring in revenue for Philadelphia. Most of this Rendall did help to establish. Why retard Philadelphia growth. the only way to go is forward, make it better. Support or culture and museums. These are great meeting places in our commuity, that expands our education and shares knowledge. We want to create people with knowledge, not expand the nothingness of life. Nobodies do nothing, Sombodies do something great. How can you are leaders and representative of our communites even consider not supporting this item. the question would be do your really respresent Philadelphia. No more cuts, get the support and the funding we need as a city to succeed to a greater plain. We are counting on you to do a great job for us.

Give us a break Rendell, Stop Taxpayer funding for the culturally disgraceful Barnes Art Museum Move. The Barnes Move is PA's Bridge To Nowhere. Built on a 12 Acre 125 year old arboretum and garden, it is the sanest, most soulful and most serene place to view and learn about art in all the world. The Barnes in Merion is a sacred American place and a National Cultural Treasure. Designed in 1922, it represents the reaffirmation of spirituality and wonder at the height of the American Industrialization. It was designed at the apogee of American philosophical development in a time when America first came into Its own as a world leader and represented hope to all the world. The Barnes is something that we may not yet fully understand. PLEASE STOP TRYING TO DESTROY SOMETHING YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND MR. GOVERNOR & SENATORS! Stop using taxpayer money to tear the art out of The Barnes to move it away JUST FIVE MILES to Center City. Center City Museums aren't even doing that well Gov. The PMA had to lay-off 35 in 2009 in the midst of its biggest exhibit in a long time (Cezanna & Beyond). Even with this huge exhibit, the PMA is apparently so needy that it applied for TARP funds for a loading area improvement. Mr. Rendell you promised $30mn for the Move in October, 2008 from your Rainy Day Fund but then there was no deficit and now there is a $3bn deficit. Ex-Sen Vinny Fumo has the taxpayers on the hook for another $107mn for this fiscally wasteful and culturally iresponsible Barnes move from the State Treasury. (Bill 1213 of 2002) Scarnati, Pileggi, Costa Tartaglione, Orie & Regola & crew were bragging about how great Fumo and his Barnes Museum Move was in July 2008 in Senate Resolution No. 365. The Barnes Move is fiscally irresponsible and the Pew & Annenberg Trusts are getting started the Fall so they will need YOUR TAX MONEY soon! STOP THE MOVE! KEEP THE BARNES IN MERION! REPEAL THE EARMARK AND STOP THE ED RENDELL SPENDING SPREE! See Barnesfriends.org Artjail.org Barnesfoundation.org
