Learning From Lobby Day

For over 30 years, preservationists have traveled to our nation’s capital to make the case for our work during Lobby Day. It's through these face-to-face meetings with informed constituents that our legislators get a real sense of how federal preservation issues shake down to communities "back home." To illustrate the importance of "hitting the Hill," we recently trailed the Washington State Delegation – cleverly nicknamed “Team Way Outside the Beltwayers” – during Lobby Day 2009, which took place on March 10. Use this site to find all the tips, sample documents and inspiration you need to lobby for preservation in your neck of the woods.

What is Team Way Outside the Beltwayers?
What do you get when you combine a former small-town mayor, a couple of enthusiastic first-time lobbyists, a museum director, a handful of statewide partners and consultants, a non-profit executive director, current and retired university professors, and several seasoned preservationists? The dynamic recipe for advocacy success that is Team Way Outside the Beltwayers, of course.
