Transportation Policy Recommendations
-
Discourage states from using federal transportation dollars to subsidize sprawl-type development, and encourage states to redirect funding to established, older rural and urban communities.
-
Ensure that Section 4(f) and NEPA are protected and not weakened in 2009 Transportation Authorization bill.
-
Continue to fund transportation enhancements and direct the Secretary of Transportation to instruct states not to cut funding from this important program.
-
Include additional historic preservation-based language in the 2009 Transportation authorization bill to encourage adaptive reuse of existing transportation infrastructure, including rail and other forms of public transportation.
-
Promote reuse rather than demolition of historic bridges by removing obstacles to repair or relocate.
-
Support transit-oriented development in existing neighborhoods but include protections for historic buildings and neighborhoods.
