Lyndhurst, this country's finest early Gothic Revival mansion and spectacular historic gem of the Hudson Valley opens its doors in the evenings for the holiday season with A Fairy Tale Holiday. On Saturday and Sunday evenings in December, you can experience twenty of the world's favorite children's tales all through the mansion complete with twinkling lights, festive piano and harp music, and mulled cider and cookies. Unique gifts of the season can be found in our "Shop in the Kitchen" and in a very special boutique in the Servant's Dining Room presented by Fiamor of Dobbs Ferry.
The Fairy Tale Evenings are a truly delightful family tradition not to be missed. Whether you are young or just young at heart, we invite you to witness Lyndhurst after dark and experience the enchantment, wonder and history of our Fairy Tale Holiday. The gingerbread cottage that lured Hansel and Gretel to the witch will welcome you into the vestibule. Alice's adventures in Wonderland will be featured in the Reception Room while the Gould family Christmas from the 1880s awaits you in the Library. An early 20th century appliquéd Egyptian tent from Helen Gould's travels is ready for Aladdin in the Drawing Room while Peter Pan and Captain Hook have taken over the Art Gallery. The little Mermaid dreams of her prince in the master bath while Cinderella waits for hers in the Star Bedroom. A thirty-seven foot beanstalk climbs up the stairwell from the basement to the tower.
