Mikkelson Park

The Kime Bandshell in Mikkelson Park was built in 1930 by WPA workers. The New Hampton Municiple Swimming Pool was built in 1931 by WPA workers as well.  The Memorial Baseball Field located at Mikkelson Park was built in 1910 with WWII money donated by Veterans organizations. All three facilities have been maintained and operated by the City of New Hampton Park and Recreation department.

The Bandshell at Mikkelson Park has a long history of music in the park.  From listening to local bands to spending time with generations of families, it is a great way to enjoy the simple things in life. From the days of model A's to the present, families have enjoyed the unique structure of the Bandshell.  The Bandshell has enhanced the sound of music through time.  The Bandshell is home to our big City celebration, Heartland Days.

When the New Hampton swimming pool was built in 1931, it was the only swimming pool within miles.  It's been said, "a gentelman, made the trip by train from Oelwein to New Hampton just to swim in our pool."   The Park and Recreation organization have maintained  the unique shape of the pool with a few renovations.

In 1910, the Memorial Baseball Field was home to The New Hamptons, a semi pro baseball team.  In 1945 they switched to the New Hampton Merchants, and currently The New Hampton Braves, along with the Chickasaws, New Hampton High School.  The Memorial Baseball Field has been in its original home since 1910 used by both the New Hampton Braves and New Hampton Chickasaws.  Th park have maintained the original bleacher design.  We are in the beginning stages of renovating and duplicating the original bleacher design.  

Mikkelson Park is the central Hub for many of our activities.
