The Henry Timrod Library, established in 1897, chartered in 1908, and in its present building since 1915, is one of only two Membership Libraries still in existence in South Carolina today. Named for the Confederacy's laureate, this beautiful maintained brick bungalow, built specifically as a library, features the original diamond pane windows, a deep welcoming porch and quaint side courtyard, all representative of early 20th century "LowCountry" architecture. The Timrod's continued independent use and vibrant literary presence in Summerville has earned it a place on the National Register of Historic Places and inclusion on the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor.
