Telling the story of an ordinary Carolina mill hand's family life, this typical "company house" has been taken back to 1934. Situated in the midst of the former mill town of Cooleemee with over 300 other mill-era homes preserved, the museum's hundreds of local artifacts tell of hard work, families pulling together, self-sufficient production of most foods consumed and a way of life now gone in America. Families considered themselves part of "one big family" and "were poor but didn't know it." Stories based on hundreds of hours or oral histories and knowledge of village elders.
