Creek Native Americans initially occupied this region of Alabama. Residing in Autauga County, this county received its name from the Indian word Atagi which means water. The historic district receives its name from industrialist Daniel Pratt, the man responsible for bringing industry to the town of Prattville in the 1830s. Today, the Historic Prattville Redevelopment Authority (HPRA) and Autauga County Heritage Association (ACHA) maintain this historic district.
