The Farnsworth House in Plano, Ill., with its glass panes and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, is an iconic example of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe’s modernist domestic architecture. The National Trust and Landmarks Illinois were able to purchase the house for $7.5 million at an auction in New York City on December 12, 2003. Farnsworth House is owned and operated by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
