Roger Brown Study Collection

The Roger Brown Study Collection is housed in an 1889 two-story brick storefront building purchased by Brown in 1974 as his primary studio and residence. Brown, one of the Chicago Imagists, was known for the critical relationship between his collection of art and objects and his artistic practice. He gave his extensive "artists' museum" collection to The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. The collection and archive provide an important resource for primary research that includes various works ranging from contemporary artists and travel souvenirs, to sketchbooks and personal and professional correspondence, as well as other items Brown surrounded himself with for artistic inspiration. The Roger Brown Study Collection is a house museum and special collection of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
