Fonthill Museum
Completed in 1912, Fonthill was the home of Henry Chapman Mercer (1856-1930), archaeologist, collector, and tile maker. The first of three Mercer buildings in Doylestown, Fonthill also served as a showplace for the famed Moravian tiles he produced during the height of the Arts & Crafts movement. It is an eclectic mix of Medieval, Gothic, and Byzantine architecture, and is significant as an early example of poured reinforced concrete. This castle boasts 44 rooms, 18 fireplaces and more than 200 windows of varying size and shape. The interior walls, floors and ceilings are elaborately adorned with an incredible array of Mercer's original handcrafted tiles.
