Olana State Historic Site
Olana, the home created by Hudson River School artist Frederic E. Church (1826–1900), was developed as a unique three-dimensional work of art incorporating romantic landscape design, unparalleled Hudson River vistas, and exotic architecture. Comprised of 250 acres, the site is one of the most complete, intact 19th-century artist’s residences. The house, a Moorish villa created by the artist with assistance from noted architects Richard Morris Hunt and Calvert Vaux, contains the collections belonging to the artist and his family.
