Significance

The meticulously renovated and preserved 18th and 19th century community of Old Deerfield, Massachusetts has become a popular destination for both scholars and tourists interested in early American architecture and design.

Updates

The future of the town's untouched "feeling" was endangered in the late 1980s due to a proposed condo development located close to the village.  The Deerfield Land Trust was created in response to development pressures.  Since their founding, the organization has been successful in preventing unwanted development around the District.  Initially, developers wanted to develop the North Meadows area near the District, but his project did not take place.
