Significance
Founded by Elbert Hubbard in 1895, the Roycroft campus has long been a center of the Arts and Crafts movement. But the Roycroft Inn is threatened by its owner's bankruptcy and a lack of private investor interest in its rehabilitation.
Updates
Today, the beautifully restored Roycroft Inn operates as a thriving hotel and is once again a center of cultural activity for tourists, scholars and artists. In 1995, the National Trust bestowed a National Preservation Honor Award on the visionary partners who saved the Inn.
In 2004, the Roycroft Campus Corporation committed to taking on restoration of the rest of the historic campus complex. Having completed several more restoration projects since, including restoration of Elbert Hubbard's Copper Shop, the RCC has been working in 2008 and 2009 to rebuild the Power House, to allow visitors to fully experience the site. The campus is actively used as an educational site for artisanry and crafts, and fine crafts created by area artists are sold in the Copper Shop.
