Buckingham Training School
Dillwyn, VA
The Buckingham Training School was built in 1923. It has been vacant for over ten years and is deteriorating rapidly.
The funds will be used to rehabilitate the building. A new architectural plan for the building will be developed; the tin roof will be replaced; windows and porches will be repaired and replaced; and the foundational concrete pillars will be cleaned and painted.
Once complete, the building will house a conference room, two multi-purpose rooms, and a state of the art computer center with broadband services and virtual training capabilities. The rooms will also be used for at-risk youth development, self-esteem enhancement sessions, career options expansion, GED classes, and community meetings.
Ellis Acres Memorial Park, Inc. will manage the restoration project.
