Updates

A coalition of the National Trust, Belle Grove, Inc., Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation, Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation, and the National Park Service has made great strides. For example, in 2002, Congress established an innovative "partnership park," the Cedar Creek & Belle Grove National Historical Park, to lead preservation. However, the National Historic Landmark site remains endangered, for example: * An adjoining limestone quarry proposes to greatly expand its mining and industrial operations. * Virginia DOT proposes to greatly widening Interstate 81, which runs through the battlefield. * The Town of Strasburg is promoting sprawling residential development into the National Park.
