Emory/Tunstall School

Greensboro, AL

Emory/Tunstall
Window, roof and other building repairs are badly needed at the Emory/Tunstall School.

The Emory/Tunstall School was built in 1925.  It is not currently in use.

The grant funds will be used to carry out the second and third phases a larger rehabilitation project.  Phase 2 will include interior and exterior work to improve the septic system; roof and window repairs and replacements; and masonry repairs and painting.  Phase 3 will focus on creating an oral history of the school as well as others in the Hale County.

Once restored, the building will be used as a community center and cultural heritage museum.

The Hale Empowerment & Revitalization Organization (HERO) will manage the restoration project.

For more information about the Emory/Tunstall School or any of the other Rosenwald School grant recipients, contact Tracy Hayes in the National Trust for Historic Preservation Southern Office.
